The Dune of Pilat

Just a few pedal strokes from the Arcachon Bay and facing the tip of Cap Ferret, stands a giant sand dune: the Dune of Pilat. Between 100 and 110 meters high (103.6 m - highest point recorded in 2023), it is the highest sand formation in Europe.

The ascent, facilitated by steps (installed between April and November), is amply rewarded by a breathtaking panoramic view. On one side, it overlooks the ocean and the entrance to the Bay, on the other, the Landes forest, and on some lucky days, you can even glimpse the Pyrenees mountain range.

Discover the Dune of Pilat by cycling the Vélodyssée stage from Arcachon to Biscarrosse-Plage.
