Hiring a bike is a good way to kit out a group or to be sure you have a bike in good condition and properly equipped. Hire companies also offer equipment: panniers, trailers, follower bikes and even surfboard racks.
Hire a bike on site
Find the Accueil Vélo bike hire companies on the stage maps (useful information filter). On the ground, you will recognise them by the sign with the Accueil Vélo logo.
Accueil Vélo: what does that mean? The hire company is located less than 5 km from La Vélodyssée and provides a hybrid or touring bike for men, women and children, with a lock, a repair kit (puncture equipment, standard spanners, lubricant, foot pump), a helmet and a high-visibility jacket.
Some also rent out: luggage racks, smartphone holders, map holders, handlebar bags, panniers, trailers, baby seats, third wheels, tandems...
Hire an electric bike
The electrically assisted bike (e-bike) is legally a cycle if it complies with the European directive: 250 W maximum, assistance only (you have to pedal).
On La Vélodyssée, most hire companies offer e-bikes (for the moment, the list only covers Brittany and the Basque Country).
One way: hire at one point, return at another
Make the most of your cycling adventure, with no logistical constraints: with one-way packages, you hire a bike at the start and return it at the finish.
Many providers also offer extra services: luggage delivery, technical assistance, passenger transport, including for people with reduced mobility. Choose a provider to see its section and information.

Some advice on hiring the equipment best suited to you
A bike suited to the route
Generally a mixed-terrain bike, such as a hybrid bike.
Panniers with the bike
Very practical, even for a day trip, for carrying your clothes and a picnic.
Travelling with young children?
Consider a bike trailer (which can also carry your luggage) or a third wheel.
Continuing towards Spain, after Hendaye: Baztan Bidasoa offers bike hire in the Pyrenees, on the Spanish border.
