For better visibility, information on roadworks (🟡) and safety (🔴) is arranged from the north (Roscoff) to the south (Hendaye) of the route.
🔴 28/08 – SITUATION UPDATE
GIRONDE
The situation is improving, but caution is still required:
La Vélodyssée has reopened in Gironde, except between le Grand Crohot and Lège-Cap-Ferret.
On this section, the track remains closed for an indefinite period. The burned area is off-limits, including via the inner loop from Porge to Arès.
🚧 Safety works are continuing in the burned area: crews are operating there daily with heavy motorized equipment, and residual hot spots are still present.
These tracks are closed under safety orders, with no end date set so far. Please do not venture beyond the barriers under any circumstances.
Respecting these restrictions helps ensure everyone's safety and allows crews to work under the best possible conditions.
Currently accessible sections:
From Soulac: the route is open as far as Grand Crohot.
Further south: the route only reopens from Lège-Cap-Ferret onward.
⚠️ The route remains interrupted between these two sections. As of now, there is no safe local alternative to bypass the closed area. If you're on a multi-day tour, please plan ahead for how you'll continue your route.
Two options are available:
- 🚴 By bike, detour at Royan if heading south, or at Biganos if heading north: Canal des 2 Mers à Vélo from Royan to Bordeaux, La Scandibérique from Bordeaux to Hostens, then the Tour de Gironde à Vélo to Biganos. This detour will require adjusting your trip's schedule and logistics.
- 🚆 By train, from Soulac-sur-Mer to Bordeaux, then from Bordeaux to Biganos. Bike reservations are mandatory on regional trains. More info on the France Vélo Tourisme planner: www.francevelotourisme.com/planifier#

🟥 Sector closed to traffic
Grand Crohot → Le Porge → Lège-Cap-Ferret, including the inner loop toward Arès. Area directly affected by the wildfires and closed under safety orders for an indefinite period.
🟧 Passable, but leads to closed sectors
Le Verdon → Grand Crohot in the north, Biganos → Lège-Cap-Ferret in the south. These sections remain accessible but lead to the closed area. Do not head into them if your trip needs to continue beyond that point.
🟩 Alternative cycling routes
Canal des 2 Mers à Vélo, from Royan to Bordeaux. La Scandibérique, from Bordeaux to Hostens. Tour de Gironde à Vélo, from Hostens to Biganos.
🚆 Fallback stations (Train + Bike)
Royan, Soulac-sur-Mer, Bordeaux, Biganos, Arcachon. From Soulac-sur-Mer, the connection to Bordeaux is the most direct. Bike reservations are mandatory on regional trains.
LANDES
Landes is also currently under orange wildfire alert (level 3/5). The entire area, including the section between Sanguinet and Biscarrosse previously affected by the wildfire, is now open to traffic again.
