What is the European Ecolabel?
Created in 1992, the EU Ecolabel is the only official European ecological label that can be used in all member states of the European Union.
The aim of the European Ecolabel is to “promote the design, production, marketing and use of products that have a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle” and to “better inform consumers of the environmental impact of products, without compromising product or worker safety, or significantly affecting the qualities that make the product fit for use”.
There are now 52 categories of products or services that can be awarded the ecolabel.
Under tourism services, the eligible ones are tourist accommodation including hotels, aparthotels, guesthouses, hostels, youth hostels, mountain refuges, bed and breakfasts, holiday rentals, campsites and also visitor attractions.
