Biarritz Surf Cruise

3 days of surf and bike : looking for the perfect surf spot

Christophe at the bike rental company “Roues de Lilou”, and Marty at “Surf Delivery” join forces to bring you the most enjoyable of holiday experiences! This is a fun concoction combining a corner of paradise –the Basque coast and its waves- with a surf board and a mega-style comfort cruiser electric bike.

😍 The day’s best surf spot depends on the weather conditions. The Cavaliers Beach at Anglet, La CĂŽte des Basques beach in Biarritz, Parlementia beach in GuĂ©thary or the Plage du centre in Bidart. Check out the weather on Surf Report, then hop on your bike to get to the perfect surf spot and start riding the waves.

Day 1: Biarritz, the Basque Coast! (10 km)

At Christophe’s shop, pick up your comfort cruiser bike (complete with surfboard and carrier rack), then check in at the Hotel Val Flores (Accueil VĂ©lo accredited). The Hostel - just 10 minutes from the two main surf beaches in Biarritz: Grande Plage and the CĂŽte des Basques, is the ideal place to chill after a hard day’s surfing.

To find the surf, you can’t go wrong - the sea is to the West! And after your first session, why not enjoy a good meal on one of the seafront restaurant terraces?  For example, Le Surfing restaurant, overlooking the CĂŽte des Basques beach, offers fresh tasting cuisine in a west-coast style setting.

In the afternoon, it’s back for another surf session! You rule the waves in the European surfing capital!

At the end of the afternoon, an aperitif somewhere near the evening market would seem to be called for. Take advantage of your first evening to enjoy the summery atmosphere, get acquainted with the locals, discuss the waves and discover all the secrets of the Basque coast.

Before going to bed, the keenest among you will take advantage of their comfort cruise bike to tour Biarritz by night; go for an evening spin along the beaches and admire the illuminated statue of the Virgin Mary: le Rocher de la Vierge.

Day 2: Surfing day 2: Biarritz < > Saint-Jean-de-Luz (34 km)

Rise and shine, then check Surf Report to find the day’s best surfing conditions and choose your spot. LafitĂ©nia beach in Saint-Jean-de-Luz? Parlementia beach in GuĂ©thary? Or why not the highly-reputed Plage du centre in Bidart?

Whatever your choice, take your time and pedal alongside the beaches via La VĂ©lodysee. And in between surf sessions, take a seat at Le Miam in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, on the terrace of Kostaldea in GuĂ©thary, or settle down in Bidart for a slice or two of the very best pizza on the Basque coast!

During this trip, watch out and stay alert! Today, you will often share the road with car drivers: this section of the route has very few dedicated cycle paths.

Day 3: Surfin day 3: Biarritz < > Bayonne (31 Km)

Yesterday you headed south? Well, why not go north today? Anglet has a wide choice of surf spots, with no fewer than 11 spots to discover! And each has its own distinct character and atmosphere.

The most energetic travellers will cycle their comfort cruiser bike to Bayonne. Here you’ll discover the popular Basque ball game often played with bare hands: the ‘pelote basque’. Learn to tell the difference between the ‘fronton’ and ‘trinquet’ playing courts, and familiarise yourself with the traditions of this ancestral game.

When you're feeling hungry, sit under the arcades at the O'Jura Mendia restaurant and discover the flavors of Jura with Basque influences. After lunch, head back to Anglet for another surfing session! It’s your last afternoon, so why not set up a friendly competition? We’ll leave the rules up to you!

To snack after your last wave, you will find what you are looking for in Anglet where there are numerous gourmet addresses.

The return to Biarritz marks the end of your stay. When is your next weekend for trying out some new surf spots?
