Amandine and Lucie do a cycling fundraiser on La Vélodyssée

Cycling La Rochelle to Mimizan in 5 days

Amandine and Lucie set themselves the challenge of cycling 400 km from La Rochelle in 5 days to raise funds for the non-profit-making organisation Women Safe, a shelter for victims of violence against women.

Concerned about the issue of violence against women, these two friends, 24 and 27 years old, chose to pedal for this cause on La Vélodyssée, between La Rochelle and Mimizan.

Their team name, ‘The Breakaways,’ was chosen for its special meaning to them. They liked that ‘breakaway’ has both a meaning and cycling and also the meaning of ‘getting out from under the control of another’ or ‘getting your freedom back,’ like the women they were supporting with their ride.
