Built by Ferdinand Arnodin in 1900, the Pont Transbordeur, (a masterpiece of metallic architecture), is the last working construction of its type in France.
Towering 50m above the Charente, the bridge crossed the river without disturbing inland navigation between the Arsenal, the port, and the estuary.

Emblem of the Great Site of the Estuary of the Charente - Arsenal of Rochefort, it is a masterpiece of the metallic architecture and the last work of this type in France.
From the summer 2020, the gondola will cross the river for pedestrians and cyclists only. Ticket office next to the boarding dock in Rochefort or in the visitor centre in Echillais.
Tariffs : 2 € single ticket, 3 € return ticket, 2 € return ticket children from 6 to 11, free for children under 6.

La Maison du Transbordeur is the visitor centre on Echillais' bank where you will discover the history of the bridge. Free entrance.
Classified as a Historic Monument, the Pont Transbordeur and the 7 others Transporter Bridge around the world claim to be listed as UNESCO Heritage Sites
